LEAGUE FAQs
DO I HAVE TO KNOW HOW TO THROW TO JOIN A LEAGUE?
Short Answer: NO! League is where you learn the sport, and learn how to THROW BETTER from your fellow leaguers and coaches. Leagues are mainly about the community - cheering on other throwers, customizing your axes and knives, and getting tips from other throwers on how to improve your throw. We also hang out, have drinks and snacks, and practice once all matches are complete.
1. What is a league at The Cut?
Our leagues are 6 Week seasons of competitive axe and knife throwing, both run under official IATF (International Axe Throwing Federation) rules — the same rules and scoring used at IATF World Championships. Each week you'll throw a set match, track your score, climb the standings, and compete for end-of-season prizes and bragging rights. It's part sport, part social — one of the best weeknights in College Station.
2. Do I need experience to join?
Nope. Our leagues are built for all skill levels, from first-timers to seasoned throwers. Every season starts with a coached onboarding session covering stance, grip, rotation, and scoring — so even if you've never picked up an axe or a knife, you'll be match-ready by week one.
3. How much does it cost?
League dues are $69.99 for the full 6-week season. That includes practice and matches once a week (during League) and $10.00 Open Throw practice every Thursday night.
We will be launching memberships soon that include a League.
4. When do leagues meet?
Each League meets once a week on a specified date and time. League generally lasts 2-3 hours, depending on the number of matches being played each week.
5. Can I do both axe and knife leagues?
Yes — and plenty of our throwers do.
6. Do I need my own axe or knife?
No. The Cut provides all throwing equipment, and it's included in your league dues. HOWEVER - you will want your own axes and knives.
If you want to bring your own, both axes and knives must meet IATF specs and be inspected by a league official before use.
See the official IATF rulebooks for axes and knives for full equipment requirements.
7. Is there an age requirement?
League throwers must be 10 or older.
8. Do I join as a team or as an individual?
Leagues are individual — you sign up solo and you throw head-to-head matches each week. You'll make plenty of friends at the lanes; no team roster required.
9. What happens if I miss a week?
You can miss up to 2 weeks of a 6 week season and still make up all matches. Repeat no-shows may forfeit matches. Life happens — just give us a heads up.
10. Is the league officially sanctioned?
Yes. Both our axe and knife leagues are official IATF-sanctioned leagues, which means every match you throw counts toward your global IATF ranking and qualifies you for IATF Regional and World Championships. You'll get an IATF membership, a personal profile on the IATF website, and your scores tracked alongside throwers from North America, Europe, and beyond. The Cut is one of the few venues in Texas running IATF leagues in both disciplines.
11. What do I win if I win a League?
End-of-season playoffs award prizes to the top throwers in each division, including a League Trophy and $100.00 gift certificate to The Cut.
12. How do I sign up?
Spots are limited (20 per League) and leagues fill fast. Sign up below!
